In Which Real Life Trumps Blog

If you follow me on Facebook, you already know this. My father, who molded his children in his geeky image, had some pretty major surgery today.  He's doing well, though a bit doped up and groggy.  I went to visit him this afternoon in the hospital just after he'd been placed in his room to recover.  As I greeted him, he gave me the Vulcan hand gesture for Live Long and Prosper.  We all had a laugh, and I knew in that instant all was well.

So, my posts will be sporadic in nature until life resumes its normal course.

Until then, Live Long and Prosper, friends.

Geek Vid Roundup

The internet is full of fun and geeky things.  Here are 3 videos I've seen this week that made my inner geek squeal with joy.  Watch, and be entertained!

This has been making the rounds.  Star Wars that I Used to Know.  It's a good bet that if you haven't seen this, or heard of this, you lack geeky friends and an internet connection.

I discovered this fantastic parody of LMFAO's "Sexy and I know it" while killing time at lunch. Growing up with Star Tre,k this is freaking hilarious.  I especially enjoy the section with the Tribbles. Can't be Star Trek without those creepy fuzzballs.  They're trekkies and they know it, and so am I.

"Country Boy, Gamer Girl," features Felicia Day and some very questionable eye make up. She even wonders what she was thinking.    This girl is extremely talented, and if you don't know who she is, I am very sorry for you.  She's hilarious, and geeky without apology.  For more Felicia Day check out Geek and Sundry.  You won't be sorry!

Tune in next week for more geektastic entertainment! Same bat time, same bat channel!

Taste Test: Bacon Cheddar Flavored Popcorn

(Source)
I'm slightly obsessed with bacon.  In fact, it's safe to assume if you put bacon on it, I'll probably try to eat it.  So, when I spied a box of J&D's Bacon Pop on the shelf, I couldn't help myself.

I have had it sitting around for a few weeks, and I decided that today was the day.  I'm going to pop this stuff up.  So I tossed a bag in the microwave and waited.  It smelled like bacon, which was promising.  In my head I imagined the popcorn would come out fluffy and covered in a neon orange cheddar coating.  Instead, I was met with seemingly normal white puffy popcorn.  Color me disappointed.

Now, the flavor....the first bite...I liked it all right.  It was full of bacon flavor, with a slight hint of cheddar. Unfortunately, after I ate about 3-4 handfuls, I couldn't handle the taste anymore.  This usually happens to me with all microwave popcorn.  There is a bonus to this bacony treat, it doesn't have icky weird chemicals on it like most microwave brands. So, all in all, it's worth a shot if you like to freak out your friends with weird food. It would make fun game night fare.  As for me, I'll stick with my standard popcorn.  Canola oil, kernels, and a touch of salt.

If you dare, you can find this in any number of places.  I picked mine up at Cost Plus World Market, but it's also available online.

Batmania

I am looking forward to Dark Knight Rises.  It looks interesting and fun and dark.  However, I am not looking forward to hearing Christian Bale talk like he's eaten half a bag of rocks with a side of sandpaper. My partner in geekiness bought the tickets early, so we'll be catching an IMAX matinee.   We've seen every Superhero movie this summer, and I'm starting to think we're addicted to heroes and movies.

I had a wicked cool project planned, and then I met the fail whale. It was a learning experience, and I will not use contact paper for a stencil again.  Freezer paper is the way to go.  I've done shirt painting projects with it before, and it worked wonderfully.  The end result of the contact paper stencil is all right, but I don't think I'll wear it out in public.   It looks like I made it myself, and well, that ain't cool.

Instead I thought I'd share this really awesome project that a friend did for her home!

In the guest room, she painted Gotham City! Check it out!  I don't have any better photos of  the complete room, but it's still way cool!  Her twin girls love Batman, and the whole family dressed as Batman this past Halloween.  How awesome are they? I love these people.

Oh, and just in case you wondered, my favorite Batman is Adam West.  Corny, annoying, weird, campy Adam West Batman.  I watched it all the time growing up.  BANG!  POW!  ZIFF!

On a much more somber note, I want to say that I was deeply saddened by the tragedy  during the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, CO. My heart goes out to the people affected  by this senseless crime. It's just awful.  I don't understand why someone would do this. It doesn't even seem real.

Until we meet again, Peace, Love, and Batman.

The GeekVenture Begins

Greetings Bloggiverse!

I'm a geek. I'm 31 and I have toys on my desk at work. I obsess over the weirdest things, and I'm pretty sure that I  drive my family, friends and coworkers insane.  I'm eccentric, and weird.  I'm not ashamed.

My goal for this blog is to talk about the things I geek out over.  (Books, movies, games, tv, DIY projects, cooking and pretty much everything else).  Basically, this blog is my crazy eccentric outlet.  I'm excited about this project, and I'm hopeful I can keep it running.

Sit back, relax, keep those tray tables up and locked, and get ready to lift off with GeekVenture.
